1. Feminist Action & SGBV Awareness (00:02 – 00:46)
WAVES Sierra Leone actively challenges patriarchal norms by addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). They focus on feminist actions, raising awareness, and supporting women through programs like Village Savings and Loan schemes and small-scale businesses.
2. Empowerment Through Community Programs (05:07 – 05:41)
WAVES Sierra Leone has empowered women and girls to claim their rights through community dialogue, training, and policy advocacy. They aim to foster leadership and legal reforms, encouraging women’s participation in decision-making processes.
3. Girls’ Safe Spaces and Opportunities (06:59 – 07:36)
The organization provides safe spaces for adolescent girls to learn new skills, connect with mentors, and overcome challenges like discrimination and poverty. These spaces enable girls to actively engage in community decision-making and promote their rights and well-being.
*4. Educational Progress & Mentorship (08:52 – 09:56)
Through the program, over 300 girls have returned to school and passed exams. The safe spaces foster mentorship, allowing girls to discuss community issues and solutions, particularly around menstrual hygiene management, teenage pregnancy and child marriage prevention.
5. Economic Empowerment & Collective Farming (10:33 – 11:52)
The Village Savings and Loan scheme has trained women to manage their finances and homes. The program also encourages small-scale farming, where women share resources collectively, strengthening financial independence and community support.
