The Executive Director of Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society Sierra Leone (WAVES-SL} Madam Hannah Fatmata Yambasu, facilitated an insightful engagement on Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs), focusing on identifying key community challenges and effective approaches for community engagement in Makeni Northern part of Sierra Leone.

In her facilitation session, she highlighted issues such as Child Marriage, Teenage Pregnancy, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Child Labor, and other practices that negatively affect the rights, health, and development of women and children in Sierra Leone.

Participants discussed practical strategies for engaging community members through awareness raising, dialogue with traditional and religious leaders, community sensitization, and promoting positive social norms that protect vulnerable groups.
