Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society Sierra Leone (WAVE-SL) with immense support from Action Medeor/BMZ celebrated the International Day of The Girl Child. The Theme for this year celebration says: “The Gir I am, the change I lead Girls on the Frontline of Crisis”

This year auspicious celebration was done at Benduma community, Bagbwe Chiefdom in Bo District in the southern part of Sierra Leone. A football match was organized for the Safe Space girls

The football was played at the New Harvest Junior Secondary School Bagbwe chiefdom. The first encounter was between Benduma Mentees, Barlie and Njala Kendema combined as one team to play against Benduma. After the full ninety minutes of play, Benduma defeated the combined communities two goals to Neal. The two goals were scored by Florence Lamin. This victory qualified them for final.

On that very day another encounter was between Njalu and that of Njaiama. It was an encounter match, were in Mary Wudie in the twelve Jersey for Ngalu scored in the first half of play. The match ended one goal to Neal.

Moreover, on the following day Benduma and Njalu played the final match at the New Harvest Junior secondary school Mini stadium. The match was climaxed with no winner.

WAVES-SL in collaboration with BMZ/Action Medeor are fighting hard to eliminate FGM/C in Sierra Leone. In light of that, WAVES-SL operational areas in the southern part of Sierra Leone, the girl child are saying no to Female Genital Mutilation. With one accord we can succeed in this fight
