Background
Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society Sierra Leone (WAVES-SL), in partnership with Defence for Children International (DCI) and Falaba District Women Network, has secured funding from Irish Aid to implement the Women and Girl Empowerment project in Bo, Karene, and Falaba Districts in Sierra Leone. In Bo District, WAVES-SL will focus on five communities: Ngolu in Baoma Chiefdom, Yamba and Kpuwabu communities in Valunia Chiefdom, and Mogibisie and Gbandi communities in Gbo Chiefdom. The project aims to empower women and girls through community-based interventions, advocacy, and education to promote gender equality and combat violence and exploitation.
WAVES is seeking four (4) dedicated Field Officers to implement field-level activities and engage directly with project beneficiaries and stakeholders in Bo District.
Job Purpose
The Field Officers will be responsible for the direct implementation of project activities in the target communities of Ngolu Community in Baoma Chiefdom, Yamba and Kpuwabu in Valunia Chiefdom, Mogibisie, and Gbandi in Gbo Chiefdom Bo District. They will work closely with beneficiaries, community leaders, and stakeholders to deliver empowerment programs, facilitate training, and promote awareness on gender equality and protection from violence.
Key Responsibilities
• Field Implementation: Execute project activities, including workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns on women’s and girls’ empowerment and gender-based violence prevention in the assigned communities.
• Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with community leaders, women’s groups, youth, and other stakeholders to ensure inclusive participation in project activities.
• Beneficiary Support: Provide direct support to project beneficiaries, including women and girls, through mentoring, counselling, and referral to relevant services.
• Data Collection: Collect and document qualitative and quantitative data on project activities and outcomes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with local authorities, community-based organizations, and project partners to align activities and maximize impact.
• Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor project progress in assigned communities, identify challenges, and report findings to the Project Manager for timely decision-making.
• Safeguarding: Adhere to safeguarding policies to ensure the protection of children and vulnerable adults during project implementation.
• Logistics Support: Assist in organizing community events, training sessions, and other field activities, including managing logistics and resources.
Qualifications and Experience
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Work, Gender Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in community-based development work, preferably in gender-focused or women’s empowerment projects in Sierra Leone.
• Strong understanding of gender equality, women’s rights, and gender-based violence issues.
• Experience in facilitating community workshops, training, or awareness campaigns.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse community groups, including women and youth.
• Knowledge of local languages spoken in Bo District (e.g., Mende and Krio) is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in rural settings with limited resources.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
• Commitment to safeguarding and ethical community engagement.
Desirable Skills
• Previous experience working in Bo District or similar rural communities in Sierra Leone.
• Familiarity with child protection and safeguarding principles.
• Experience in data collection and reporting for donor-funded projects.
