WAVES-SL with support from Action Medeor/BMZ is implementing a project titled: Prevention of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting in Bo District, Southern part of Sierra Leone through Capacity building, Community dialogue and Adolescent girls’ Empowerment.
The project aims to advance the status of women and girls as well as boys through building their resilience, inclusive participation through different approach and strategies
A town hall meeting was convened in Njala community involving stakeholders. It was agreed that WAVES-SL will, during the school closure, hold short talks with parents, school authorities, stakeholders, and children to clarify children’s roles and responsibilities and to enhance child protection during the holidays, especially against FGM. A community consultation on VSLA was also held. The event coincided with the end of the educational session
Moreover, to mark the Day of the African Child, a football match was held between Safe Space girls from Benduma and Njala. Benduma emerged winners with a 1-0 victory. This was followed by a quiz and debate competition for the Safe Space girls. The program was well attended by parents, stakeholders, and visitors from surrounding communities
At the end of the sessions, key stakeholders made statements commending the work of WAVES-SL. They expressed appreciation to the organization for its immense support to women and the girl child in the communities.
Stakeholders further affirmed that the cordial relationship that has existed between WAVES-SL and the various communities will endure and continue to yield positive results
