THEME: RIGHTS, JUSTIC AND ACTION FOR ALL WOMEN AND GIRLS

March 8 is a date declared nationwide to celebrate Women and their strength and achievement. 2026 International Women’s Day happened to fall on Sunday, hence the Sierra Leonean government declared Monday, March 9, 2026, a public holiday to commemorations this day by celebrating women. In the southern Part of Sierra Leone, Bo Town to be specific, Various events took place, radio discussion, including marches and panel discussions around the IWD theme of the celebration which is RIGHT, JUSTICE and ACTION, Different government institutions working towards human right and Justice were part of the panel discussion, (Human right Coordination, FSU Representative, High Court George, NACRA, State Council, Female correctional Centre etc. They were asked to explain services they render as an institution, how they have been supporting client and pathways to ensure you access justice.

On the 10th march 2026, WAVES-SL through the Women and Girls Empowerment Project Funded by Embassy of Ireland  provided Mattress, food items and sanitary pads for female inmates at the Bo Correctional centre, is a great example of support to women and girl  in making a positive impact on the lives of female inmates at the Bo Correctional Centre.

Superintendent Mary Y Beaubois’s head of the Female Correctional Centre gratitude highlights the impact of WAVES-SL support. Providing essential items like food and sanitary pads can make a big difference in the lives of female inmates. Superintendent Mary Y Beahboi is calling on organizations to lend a helping hand. Her appeal highlights the ongoing needs of the female inmates at Bo Correctional Centre.

Finally, Isatu’s story is truly inspiring. Ten years can be a long time, and it’s amazing to hear about the transformation she’s undergone. Finding faith and a new sense of purpose in prison can be life changing. She finally expressed that she got an encounter with Jesus. She was overwhelmed to say that September coming will be totally free. And she will be an ambassador for Christ!!
