This year marks a significant milestone for Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society – Sierra Leone (WAVES-SL) as we proudly celebrate 20 years of relentless service, advocacy, and impact across the nation.

Founded in October 2005, WAVES-SL is a National Non-Governmental Organization (NNGO) committed to combating all forms of violence and exploitation against women and girls. Headquartered in Bo City, in the heart of Southern Sierra Leone, our mission has remained steadfast: to create a society where the rights, dignity, and potential of women and girls are fully recognized, protected, and empowered.

Over the past two decades, WAVES-SL has worked tirelessly within communities across Sierra Leone—raising awareness, providing support services, advocating for policy reform, and building partnerships to promote gender justice and equality. Our initiatives have reached thousands, from survivors of gender-based violence to marginalized girls in need of education and protection.

As we reflect on 20 years of resilience and growth, we express heartfelt gratitude to our partners, community leaders, donors, volunteers, and every individual who has walked this journey with us. Your support has been instrumental in making WAVES-SL a trusted voice and force for change.

As we look ahead, we reaffirm our commitment to the vision that gave birth to this movement in 2005: a Sierra Leone free from violence, exploitation, and gender injustice—where every woman and girl can live, grow, and lead in dignity and safety.

Here’s to 20 years of impact – and to the journey ahead!
